Police Operations

This one semester course introduces students to public service careers in corrections, judiciary, law enforcement, military, or security. Through direct instruction, demonstration, and hands-on scenarios, students learn arrest, handcuffing and searching techniques, self-defense, crisis de-escalation, report writing, criminal and traffic law, radar, crime scene investigation, patrol procedures, impaired driving enforcement, interview and interrogation, drill and ceremony, and constitutional law.

Once a week, students will wear a uniform and participate in physical fitness activities.

Student learning will be reinforced with guest speakers and a field trip to the police academy.

Students are eligible to earn three free college credits through Southern Maine Community College.

Students can earn certifications in first aid and firearms proficiency.

Interested seniors may have an opportunity to job shadow at a police department or a county jail.

Details

Each of our Criminal Justice Courses are a single semester course that can be taken independently or in conjunction with our other related Criminal Justice courses over two years of study:

  • Criminalistics
  • Legal Studies
  • Police Operations
  • Criminal Investigation
