Business Management Successes at FBLA Competition
On Monday and Tuesday, March 19 and 20, members of the Business Management Class at Lake Region Vocational Center attended the Future Business Leaders of America Maine State Spring Leadership conference at the Double Tree Hotel in South Portland. Over 200 students from across the state came to compete in many different business competitions and attend business workshops. This year, five LRVC students attended the conference and each competed in three events.

True Meyers and Hunter Russo both from Lake Region High School were the big winners as they worked as a team and competed in three events and received medals in all three events. They received First Place in Graphic Design which also included a $2500.00 scholarship to Thomas College. They had to create a digital magazine spread for the FBLA publication, Tomorrow’s Business Leader. It included a cover, a feature article on an FBLA program, an interview with an educator, and a promotional announcement for the 2018 National Leadership Conference in Baltimore.
True and Hunter received Second Place in Entrepreneurship. This was a two part competition where they took an objective test together and were then given a decision-making problem encountered by entrepreneurs. They had 20 minutes to come up with a solution and present it to the judges and answer any of their questions.
They also received Third Place in Management Decision Making In this competition they took a 100 question written test together then,were given a problem encountered by managers in one of the following areas: human resource management, financial management, marketing management or information systems management. They assume the role of management and present a solution to the case study. They were given 20 minutes to come up with a solution and seven minutes to present it to the judges and answer any of their questions.
Cheyenne Bell of Lake Region High School and Abby Denison of Sacopee Valley High School won Third Place in Publication Design. They created a publication portfolio for a new business that included a logo for the business, a poster to advertise the business, a business card, and three additional promotional products.
