Tuesday, January 16th was an opportunity for students to hear presentations made by representatives of Sargent’s Construction, Cianbro Construction, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. These three local companies provide training programs for high school seniors.
Sargent’s Construction –This is a 6 week paid training program starting in June that provides an introduction to Civil Engineering Construction. It is a great opportunity for students who enjoy working outdoors and being around heavy equipment. Upon completion, students become full-time employees of Sargent Corporation. Cianbro Construction – This Youth Training Program is at one of the largest and most diverse United States companies. It is also 100% employee owned. Presently, Cianbro operates in more than 40 states and employs over 4000 members. The company manages civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and fabrication jobs. The boot camp offers paid apprenticeships in a multitude of construction jobs.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Apprenticeship-The shipyard offers a paid four year/8000 hour apprenticeship program with full benefits that provides college level academic and trade related training in 24 areas. Upon completion, the graduate will have 24 college credits and a DOL journey worker certificate. The shipyard in Kittery, Maine has over 5500 employees.
