WE-DO Student Summer Work Program-A HUGE SUCCESS!
This past summer, a 4 week pilot program was conducted in conjunction with the Maine Department of Labor’s Vocational Rehabilitation Division, Alpha One (a teen support group), and Lake Region Vocational Center. Diversified Occupations students were placed with local businesses for four days a week and were paid by the Department of Labor to work. These students were also required to attend a 2 hour class once a week where they researched career options, practiced filling out job applications and time sheets, learned how to make healthy decisions with nutrition and hygiene, and worked on team building skills, and much more. Only three schools in the state were chosen to pilot this program.
The WE-DO Student Work Program very successful and the state has agreed to support it again next summer.
