LRVC 2016 Student of the Year
Congratulations for KAYTLYN TERRY who is Lake Region Vocational Center’s Student of the Year.
Kaytlyn is a second year student in the Culinary Arts Program at Lake Region Vocational Center. She moved to Maine from California during her sophomore year of high school where she continued participating in Cheerleading, Basketball, and Tennis.
Her career choice was decided when she was just 11 years old and joined a “Cooking With Kids” Program and had the opportunity to work with Guy Fieri of Food Network fame.
During high school, she traveled to Guatemala with the “Safe Passage” Program, a non-profit organization that works with underprivileged children. She traveled to Puerto Rico to experience the culture and is planning a restaurant tour of South America following graduation specifically to focus on baking and desserts with her Dad.
Her instructor describes Kaytlyn as “the model of consistency” during her two-year program. She arrives at class ready to go and excited to learn. She has played an integral part in all after-school culinary activities.
Kaytlyn is a vital member of the LRVC SkillsUSA Chapter where she served as an officer. She competed at the SkillsUSA competitions both her junior and senior year. She will have earned college credit, a Johnson & Wales Academic Scholarship, and a Johnson & Wales Scholarship through SkillsUSA. She has ServSafe Certification and has successfully completed the American Culinary Federation Certified Culinary Program
She plans to attend Johnson & Wales University to study baking and hopes to become a baker one day and own her own business.
