The Certified Nurse Assistant program is a one year program at Lake Region Vocational Center.  This course is open to juniors and seniors that are home schooled as well as Lake Region High School, Sacopee Valley High School, and Fryeburg Academy. 

Students learn to maintain a proper patient environment, record and report observations, provide assistance in personal hygiene, assist with emergency situations  and communicate effectively and professionally. 

Students who successfully complete the program will obtain CPR and First Aid certification are and are eligible to take the State of Maine Certified Nurse Assistant Exam and obtain placement on the CNA Registry.  Graduates have begun work as a CNA immediately as well as continued to post-secondary programs and universities to further their health care careers.

Health care jobs are among the fastest growing career opportunities.  All require an element of caring in addition to specific medical and technology knowledge.  If you are interested in helping people and are willing to work hard, then this program is for you!

 

 

Course Requirements

  • Excellent attendance
  • Strong reading, writing, and math skills
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Students must pass a medical clearance exam for participation in clinical rotations and show proof of immunity to certain medical conditions
  • Pass a criminal record check

In this program, you will be required to participate in a minimum of 90 hours in a clinical setting and a skills lab under the direction of an RN instructor. An academic score of 80 is expected to be maintained in order to proceed to the clinical sites. 

Before completion of the program you will create a professional portfolio. This includes a cover letter and resume, job shadow and clinical setting reports, transcripts, samples of your work and awards and certificates.
