Law Enforcement Field Trips to Court and Jail
On January 22, 2014, twenty students from the Law Enforcement program traveled to Portland to visit the Cumberland County Jail and the Portland District Court. At the jail, senior corrections Office Mark Renna provided an overview of the correctional mission and its responsibilities, followed by a tour of intake, housing pods, and master control.
At the Portland District Court, Assistant District Attorney Christine Thibeault explained the stages of the state prosecution process and the students viewed arraignment and trial courts. The court tour culminated with a presentation by Judge Paul Eggert.
Field trips like this use real world experience to reinforce classroom learning. This spring, selected law enforcement seniors will have an opportunity to job shadow with Officer Renna to explore career and employment opportunities.
